This research study examines the process of urbanisation in the North-Eastern Region and identifies measures to steer growth and guide the process of urbanisation so as to bring about a socio-economic transformation of the states within the region. Some of the aspects under the study constitute, area and population, structure of net share domestic product, rural-urban distribution of population by district, urban population densities, average size of urban households, town-wise male and female population and sex ratio, urban literacy, % of agricultural workers, state of tribal population, water supply capacity, composition of municipal revenues, civic status of urban centres, target requirements for education, health, sanitation and water supply facilities.
